5/7/1994Dr. S.P. Tripathy, Director-General of ICMR, retired after 32 years of distinguished service in the ICMR, and Dr. G.V. Satyavati took over as the new Director-General of ICMR in July 1994. She became the first woman scientist in the country to head not only ICMR but any Research agency in independent India.
5/5/1946Simla Conference in session from May 5 to May 12; Gandhiji's deliberations prove anfractuous.

2/14/1891Stephen Smith, greatest pioneer of air borne mail, was born at Strawberry Hill, Shillong, Assam.
1/27/1931Mahatma Gandhi was released from jail, ending eight months of imprisonment for his campaign of civil disobedience against British rule. To avoid demonstrations, Gandhi was released late in the evening from the Yerovda jail and put on a night train to Bombay. There was hope in British circles that the release of Gandhi would end the strife and lead to discussions of dominion status. Gandhi made clear, however, that he would persist in his civil disobedience campaign.

12/30/1803East India Comapny captured Dehli, Agra and Bharooch.
4/26/1858Kunwar Singh, revolutionary of Indian mutiny and freedom fighter, passed away. He fought his last battle near Jagdishpur, Bihar on April 23, 1858 and defeated the Britishers but was deeply wounded. He also organised the national rebels.
1/25/1971Himachal Pradesh High Court was established at Shimla for Himachal Pradesh Territory.
