The Maharashtra Government bans the controversial Marathi play on Nathuram Godse, assassin of Mahatma Gandhi. It was produced by Mr. Udhay Dhurat.

6/4/1997Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2D), fourth satellite in INSAT-2 series, launched. This has additional capabilities such as mobile satellite service, business communication and television outreach beyond Indian boundaries. This became inoperable due to power bus anamoly since Oct. 4, 1997. It was launched by European launch vehicle, Ariane from Kourov in French Guyana.

9/17/1924Popati Ramchand Hiranandani, famous Hindi writer, was born at Hyderabad in Sind.
5/2/195340 persons were reported losing their lives today in the first crash of a jet airliner in commercial service. The jetliner, a British-built Comet, plunged to earth in a violent storm just a few minutes after taking off from Calcutta. It was carrying a party of rubber and tin operators from Malaya to England. There were no survivors. Two Comets have crashed before, one last October and one in March, but neither was carrying passengers.
