Seven violent incidents reported during Haryana polls

Gurugram, Oct 21 (IANS) The voting for 90 Assembly constituencies of Haryana concluded with over half a dozen incidents of violence on Monday.

The most noticeable incident of attempt to murder took place in former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's stronghold Kiloi Sampla Assembly constituency in Rohtak district where a youth was shot at outside a polling booth in Jasia village.

The victim, Pawan, sustained a gunshot injury in the leg. He was taken to the PGI Rohtak hospital. The attacker was identified as Somvir Singh of Jasia village.

In another incident, supporters of Congress candidate Aftab Ahmed and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Jakir Hussain were involved in stone pelting in the morning hours in Nuh district. Besides, stone pelting was also reported in Bahadurgarh area during closing hours.

Scuffles were reported in four places in Gurugram district. The first incident was reported in Arjun Nagar where supporters of BJP candidate Sudhir Singla and Independent candidate Mohit Grover got involved in a physical fight.

A similar situation arose in Badshahpur area when two groups belonging to BJP candidate Manish Yadav and Independent candidate Rakesh Daulatabad indulged in a scuffle.

In Sohna, supporters of Jannayak Janata Party candidate Rohtash Khatana and BJP candidate Sanjay Singh engaged in a fight in Rithoj village.

Another violent incident was also reported in Sohna but the police did not disclose more information.

As per the Election Commission data, the maximum percentage of votes were cast in Sohna (69 per cent) followed by Nuh (66), Ferojpur Jhirka (64), Bawal (61), Kosli (59.5), Rewari (54), Gurugram (51), Pataudi (52.33) and Badshahpur (45 per cent).
