83K J&K people brought home amid lockdown

Jammu, May 22 (IANS) Since COVID-19 lockdown started in the country, J&K government has so far brought back 83,000 home from different parts of the country.

"Of these, over 63,000 were brought from different states and union territories through the Lakhanpur entry point, while another 20,000 were brought by special trains those reached Udhampur during this period.

"In addition, over 500 students were flown into the country from abroad through special flights operated during the same period," an official said.

In addition to the official concern to ensure that these people reunited with their families after proper screening and quarantine protocol, the official said the government also tried to ensure that these people joined their families on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr likely to be celebrated on Sunday or Monday subject to the appearance of the moon as per the Muslim calendar.
