In Hindi : Badisaunf Fennel is the dried ripe fruit of a perennial aromatic herbaceous plant, which grows in mild climate. In India it is grown in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. It is used in a wide range of dishes. Fresh fennel leaves are used in fish and pork dishes, salad dressings and stuffing.

Fennel seeds are used in pickles and variety of meat preparations. Powdered fennel is a flavouring agent in biscuits, cakes and cooked apple dishes.

Well-known as ''''Saunf'''' Indian fennel is used in food, medicines, liquors and perfumery.
