4/9/1756Ali Bardi Khan of Bengal passed away in Murshidabad. His youngest daughter's son Siraj-ud-Daulah was crowned as King of Bengal when he was merely 20 years old after the death of King Tartar.
11/10/1848Surendranath Banerji, popularly known as Rashtraguru, was born at Taltala, Calcutta. He passed his final ICS Examination in 1869 and joined in 1871, He was President of the Indian National Congress twice, in 1895 at Pune and in 1902 at Ahmedabad.
1/25/1988Bharat Ratna, India's highest award, was given to Dr. Marudu Gopalan Ramachandran, MGR (Posthumous) (1917-1987).
8/19/1946Cabinet Mission's plan announced an interim government, which was formed by reconstituting the Viceroy's Executive Council. The Muslim League took umbrage and started direct action. Riots broke out as Muslims attacked Hindu's in Calcutta and the rest of Bengal. The Viceroy persuaded the Muslim League to join the government. But the League declined to join the Constituent Assembly unless the demand for a seperate state of ""Pakistan"" was conceded.

7/29/1904Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhai Tata, president of Tata industrial group, was born in Paris, France. He was the first pilot of India to be conferred with the Bharat Ratna.
