10/16/1968Hargovind Khorana, Indian scientist, was awarded 1968 Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology on man-made synthetic gene.
6/9/1964Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India when the country was shocked of Jawaharlal Nehru's death and Indo-China war. Shastri gave the quotation ""Jai Jawan Jai Kisan"" which motivated the war-affected Indians to boost their morale. He remained in this office till he died on January 11, 1966 at Taskent. In his cabinet, Indira Gandhi served as Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
3/1/1971Central Translation Bureau was setup as a subordinate office under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Bureau undertakes translation work of manuals, codes, forms and other non-statutory procedural literature of various ministries, departments, offices of the Central Government and Undertakings, Banks etc.
10/4/1997Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2D), fourth satellite in INSAT-2 series, became inoperable due to power bus anomaly. This satellite had capabilities such as mobile satellite service, business communication and television outreach beyond Indian boundaries.
