3/5/1948C. Rajagopalachari appointed the first Indian Governor General to succeed Lord Mountbatten on 21 June.
5/13/1967Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1888-1975) retired from the post of second President.
4/16/1963Gopal Singh Nepali, famous poet, passed away.
6/3/1947British Government issued the partition plan, which was worked out by Lord Louis Mountbatten in New Delhi and was accepted by both Muslim League and Congress. The salient features of the partition were, 1) Provices of Bengal and Punjab to be divided., 2) The Indians will form the constitution of India and it will only be applicable in the areas where people accept it., 3) The province of Baluchistan shall adopt proper ways to decide its future., 4) 562 Princely States shall be free to decide their own future., 5) Referendum shall be held in N.W.F.P. and Assam., 6) The Governor General of both countries shall be the executive head of their respective countries., 7) Military assets shall be divided between the two countries and 8) Red Cliff Mission was setup, to demarcate the boundaries of the two countries. India would become free on 15th August 1947.

8/28/1667Sardar Jay Singh I, the famous king- Mirza Raja, a ruler of the kingdom of Amber (later called Jaipur) also in Aurangzeb's kingdom, passed away at Barhanpur.
9/23/1863Rao Tularam Singh Yadav, freedom fighter, was one of the key leaders of the Indian rebellion of 1857, in Haryana, where he is considered a state hero.
1/11/1991Five JD ministers at the Centre disqualified by Speaker Rabi Ray on the basis of anti-defection law.Five disqualified ministers who tendered their resignation were asked to continue in office by the PM.
11/20/1998V. K. Sharma, chairman and managing director of JVG Group of Companies, who allegedly swindled Rs. 600 crores from investors, is arrested in Mumbai.
