Lucknow, April 6 (IANS) The number of coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh crossed the 300 mark on Monday.

The state's tally now stands at 305, where 159 coronavirus positive cases are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation, health officials said.

Briefing reporters on Monday, Additional Chief Secretary Home, Avanish Awasthi said that with the Tablighi Jamaat corona patients constituting more than 50 per cent of the total cases, it is now important to track the contacts of the infected persons.

He said that the maximum number of Tablighi cases had been reported from Agra (29) while Lucknow had 12 cases.

The official said that in such circumstances, it would be premature to say whether the lockdown would be lifted after April 15.

"The situation is sensitive and even the slightest error could lead to a resurgence of corona cases," he said.

Awasthi added that the testing facilities for corona cases have been strengthened and ten medical colleges would now be testing centres for the patients.
