5/1/1867Sri Kasinadhuni Nageswara Rao Pantulu, great freedom fighter, journalist, nationalist, politician, pioneer in library movement and litterateur, was born at Elakurru village in Gudivada Taluk, District Krishna.
9/9/1850Bhartendu Harish Chander, father of modern Hindi literature, poet and dramatist, was born.
6/28/1972Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis died. He was the first founder of Indian statistical Institute to receive world recognition. In 1958, he started his national sample surveys. A Sample survey means assessing a situation by studying a part of it which would represent the whole, some of his proposals were included in the second five year paln. His original work made him elected as fellow of the Royal society in 1945.

11/19/1838Keshab Chandra Sen (1838-84), nationalist leader of Bengal, was born in Calcutta. He was one of the first Indians to sow the seeds of secularism in the country. He joined the Brahmo Samaj in 1857 but seperated from it in 1866 and founded Brahma Samaj of India, a radical offshoot of the Adi Brahmo Samaj.
